Sports Agenda For Tuesday (8/30/11)
Big Story:
UM is anxiously awaiting the results of the NCAA's eligibility question, but it's not going to matter much until Ohio State comes to town in the Ineligibowl. Dolphins management prove they are about as competent as Nevin Shapiro in an ethics class, and the Marlins have Harry Doyle announcing for them, I'll explain.
In this agenda, the only thing attached to our legs going through security is a playbook.
Firsties:
Sometimes you struggle to describe just how inept the Dolphins management exactly have become.
Then a story like this one comes along and takes care of it.
If you haven't heard, the Dolphins are celebrating Gator Day this year.
Yes, the home stadium of the Miami Hurricanes is honoring the Florida Gators for their 2009 national championship.
Because we all know, we should all celebrate things on the two year anniversary.
I mean, it's not like we don't have a ton of Canes fans down here, or even FSU fans.
The Fins said they offered it to the Canes, who declined.
Because the Canes will honor their 2001 national championship team during a home Canes game. Plus, it's been 10 freaking years, when you normally honor a team.
A couple of things here: I'd give good money to have been able to match up the 2001 Canes team versus the 2009 Gators team.
I'm telling ya, the Gators would have been run off the field like they were FAU.
Second, the Canes 2001 team could beat the crap out of any Dolphins team they've fielded under the current regime.
Back to the point, it's just insane that they are so desperate to sell tickets they pull off a stunt like this.
You think the Patriots, Steelers, or other NFL teams would pull crap like this?
The Dolphins need to learn the same lesson the Marlins need to learn. You put a winner on the field, fans will come. If you don't, you have to whore yourself out for promotions that make you look pathetic.

UM:
Canes head coach Al Golden said he expects the NCAA to make a ruling in the next 48 hours.
Don't read too much into that.
It's possible, but the NCAA works on its timetable and could care less about UM's first game.
Look, the Canes want their players, but they also want to know exactly what the NCAA has on the school.
If the players are ruled eligible, the Canes know that the scandal may not involve current students.
On the flip side, if the players are ruled ineligible by the NCAA, the Canes know they are in deep poop.
Either way, the Canes are more worried about getting the players back for the Ohio State game anyway.
Marlins: (@NY Mets, 7:10 p.m., Fox Sports Florida)
I referenced Harry Doyle from major league earlier when talking about the Marlins.
Basically, I'll paraphrase what he said to describe the Marlins doubleheader against the Mets yesterday.
"One run, that's all we got was one g-d run?"
That about sums it up for the Marlins.
