Sports Agenda For Tuesday (8/2/11)

Big Story:
The Marlins rode the BIG bat of Mike Stanton to a victory last night, there's more football fun than a barrel of monkeys, and there are still 11 teams who have roughly $20 million in cap space after as free agency continues…and there's a common theme among those teams.
Let's hit this agenda harder than Amy Winehouse hit the floor….too soon?

Firsties:
Big thanks to Peter, Tiffani, and Kelly who all took the time to read my personal message in Monday's agenda.
I appreciated the compliments and it was tough to write that and put it out there for the world.
I listened to radio and heard people say Brandon Marshall used it as an excuse, like some people say people who are depressed use it as an excuse.
I say to those people, try walking a mile in the man's shoes and then you'd understand how difficult it really is, and until then, you have no business judging Marshall or anyone else who battles mental illness.

Marlins: (@ New York Mets, 7:05 p.m., Fox Sports Florida)
Don't look now Marlins fans, but the Fish are within one game of third place in the NL East.
That's quite a freaking accomplishment considering just how far the Fish fell in June.
With a victory Tuesday night in New York, the Fish would move into a tie with the Metropolitans for 3rd place in the NL East.
Last night, the Marlins went to extra innings when Mike Stanton decided it was time to send the fans home unhappy when he cranked a GRAND SLAM in the 10th inning.
Stanton is just a beast at the plate. He's in third place in the National League for home runs, just behind Matt Kemp and Lance Berkman.
Stanton isn't hitting for average, but when he connects, that ball is screaming like a UM football fan saying it's still an elite program.
Stanton has hit 25 homers this season and has 67 RBI's, which leads the team in both categories.
The Fish toss out Brad Hand tonight in New York, so expect a lot of bullpen action.
The Marlins will play tonight's game and Wednesday night's game in New York before returning home for a 10-game home stretch.
During the Fish's home stretch, they'll take on the Cardinals, Braves, and Giants.

Dolphins Update:
So, the Dolphins signed this guy named Jason Taylor.
Don't know much about hi…..c'mon, every Dolplhins fan knows JT.
The outcry I heard yesterday was why did the Fins sign him?
It's several reasons.
First, he brings veteran leadership to a very young defense. He can help mold Cameron Wake and Koa Misi further and give them rest when they get winded during a game.
Second, he can still bring it to the quarterback. He played sparingly last season in New York and still came away with 5 sacks.
Finally, he is great in pass defense and can get between the ball and the receiver like few other DE's/OLB's.
Oh, and he probably came cheap.
The funniest part of the Fins day yesterday was hearing fans chant, "We Want Orton," during the Fins' open practice last night at Sun Life Stadium.
I don't want to say that the Fins quarterback situation is bad, but when your fans are chanting for Orton….you've really hit rock bottom.
