Sports Agenda for Tuesday (1/24/12)
Big Story:
The Heat hit the court again Tuesday night after getting a desperately needed day of rest Monday; the Panthers play their final game in January; and the Dolphins begin to try to put together a coaching staff in a hurry.
When my Super PAC makes contributions, it's for….more sports.
Heat: (vs. Cleveland Cavaliers, 7:30 p.m., Sun Sports)
Coming off a thumping at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks, really?!?, the Heat will hit the court again Tuesday night.
The Heat are still likely to be #withoutwade and for all the idiots in the national media and fans who keep saying the Heat may be better #withoutwade, STOP IT!!!
Tonight, the Heat will welcome in LeBron's former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Given the Cavs' lack of ability to play very well, it should be an easy victory for the Cavs.
I have noticed though that Norris Cole is struggling playing at a slower pace, but that's to be expected for rookies.
Eddy Curry continues to get his roughly 6 minutes a game, but he's going to struggle for a while.
But the Heat have to get better production from Mike Miller….he had 1 point, 3 rebounds, and four fouls in 20 minutes of action Sunday.
Plus, someone get some stickum for Chris Bosh….8 turnovers and 1 assist?
Yikes. That ain't gonna cut it.
Still, the Heat are 11-5 through 16 games and it's still early in the season.
I'm looking forward to seeing Wade back in the lineup, but the main thing I want to see is for LeBron to continue playing his game and bring Wade back to play his game alongside him, and then things will start clicking on all 12 cylinders.
Panthers: (vs. Philadelphia Flyers, 7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Florida)
The Panthers continue to cling to first place in the Southeast Division, but could help themselves a lot right now by knocking off the Flyers tonight at the BankAtlantic Center.
Philly is in second place in the Atlantic Division and is seven points ahead of the Panthers in the Eastern Conference.
After tonight, the Panthers get around a week off to get themselves together.
Then they have to come back together and make the stretch run to April 7 and the end of the regular season.
It's not going to be easy, but hitting the halfway point in the season in first place could go a long way to getting the Cats in the right frame of mind for the final push to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Dolphins:
Well, they hired Joe Philbin and I think he's going to end up being a great hire for the Dolphins.
Now, his coaching staff is going to have to be assembled quickly, but effectively.
He's rumored to be interested in bringing former Packers head coach Mike Sherman in as an offensive coordinator.
He had a Texas A&M offense that was regularly very effective in his previous stop in College Station.
Still, he had a hard time developing quarterbacks there.
That said, his former quarterback Ryan Tannehill could be available for the Dolphins in the first/second round of the NFL Draft.
There are now quarterback options aplenty for the Dolphins, but they have to answer which one will fit the Philbin modified West Coast Passing attack.
I'm not sure Matt Flynn is the answer, because backups always worry me.
Remember Scott Mitchell anyone?
Flynn could be the next Matt Schaub, or he could be the next Kevin Kolb.
Now, as for Peyton Manning, I wouldn't bank on him, not until he's been triple-cleared by multiple doctors.
Even then, I wouldn't pay him $28 million for one season.
$15-20 maybe, but not $28 million.
