Sports Agenda for Thursday (9/20/12)

Big Story:
College football actually has two intriguing matchups over the next two nights, plus my picks for the weekend. The Dolphins Brian Hartline makes a spot-on comparison of the media hype surrounding Tim Tebow. And there's an NBA rumor that should make you double-over laughing at the Celtics.

Quote of the Day:
"The indulgence of our lives has cast a shadow on our world. Our devotion to our appetites betrayed us all. An apocalyptic plight; more destruction will unfold. Mother Earth will show her darker side and take her toll. Still, we ravage the world that we love. And the millions cry out to be saved. Our endless maniacal appetite, left us with another way to die. Can we repent in time?" – David Draiman, from the song "Another Way to Die"

College Football:
A couple of games should grab your attention over the next two nights because both should be pretty fun.
Tonight, BYU heads to the smurf turf of Boise State to play the Broncos. BYU lost a heartbreaker last week to Utah and Boise is trying to rebuild this year, so it should be a great matchup.
Friday night, Baylor travels to Louisiana-Monroe. Now this should be fun. Can La-Monroe pull off another upset of a BCS conference school? After seeing Baylor taken to the wire last week by Sam Houston State, I think it's very possible. That should, should push them into the Top 25 if they do it. Think about it, 3-1 with your lone loss being at Auburn in overtime? A win against the SEC and the Big XII? That'd work for me. But they have to get by Baylor first.
That said, some great games this weekend including my Missouri Tigers traveling to Columbia to play the Ol' Ball Coach….yipes.
Without further adieu, let's get to some picks!
West Virginia BIG over Maryland (can we cue the fire randy edsall chants please?)
Ohio State over UAB
Florida over Kentucky
Georgia Tech over Miami
Mizzou over South Carolina (I know, I just can't bring myself to do it yet. Wait for Alabama and Florida playing Mizzou, I'll pick against em.)
UCLA over Oregon State
Penn State over Temple
Washington State BIG over Colorado
Alabama BIG over FAU (I'm not sure Bama will allow a point for the third straight weekend!)
LSU over Auburn
Rutgers over Arkansas
Notre Dame over Michigan
Georgia over Vanderbilt
K-State over Oklahoma
FSU over Clemson
Utah over Arizona State
And finally, Oregon over Arizona to cap the day's action.
Looking back on the season thus far…I went 15-1 in week 1, 15-4 in week 3 and 12-6 in week 2 for a season record of 42-11.
Not too bad, wish I could ditch week 2's results!

Miami Dolphins:
So Brian Hartline said "That's you guys, how much you love [him]. Everbody loves him, but the same people go with the Kardashian. I don't know what they did, either."
Well, there is one thing Tebow does have that Hartline doesn't….a win in the playoffs.
But Hartline's overall point is that Tebow is a media creation and to a large degree he is.
Let's face it, name me three other backup quarterbacks besides Tebow?
Tougher than you think huh?
And let's be honest, ESPN has whored itself out to Tim Tebow to the point where you can see the reporters looking just uncomfortable covering it.
Heck in August, if you only watched ESPN, you may not have known any other team was in training camp because they camped out at Jets camp to see if Tebow would be running without a shirt on in the rain.
I wish that was a joke, but it's sadly not.
I don't blame Tebow, I blame ESPN.
I've watched a lot of years and I never heard an entire network fall all over themselves to heap praise on him.
Like I've always said, I like Tebow as a person and think he's a great role model for kids.
That said, he's not an NFL quarterback and never will be, at least not good enough to get to the big dance and win it all.
He's a backup quarterback at best and an awesome fullback/h-back.
As for the game itself, I'm sure the Dolphins will get a dose of Tebow, but not a ton.
Kinda tough to run the wildcat against the team that brought the single-wing back to the NFL.
I think the game will be a slobber-knocker, but if Darrelle Revis isn't 100 percent, the Dolphins have a real shot.
But, we'll see who's healthy and who's not.

NBA:
Just a quick NBA note.
The Celtics are rumored to be interested in signing Darko Milicic to a training camp contract.
BWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....no wai....HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA.
