Sports Agenda For Monday (2/13/14)

Big Story:
Don't look now, but the Panthers have won two in a row, the Heat spanked the Hawks by 20, and UM comes up short against Florida State and pushes themselves even further out on the bubble.
I thought I was watching the Walking Dead last night but then realized I was actually looking at the Grammys.

Heat: (@ Milwaukee Bucks, 8 p.m., Sun Sports)
Fear the Deer!!!
That was the sentiment after the Bucks have already beaten the Heat twice this year and appear to have their number.
Plus, this is the middle game of a back-to-back-to-back series.
The Heat beat the Hawks like a government mule last night, which was great to see.
LeBron and Bosh decided to pound the glass like no one's business last night.
LeBron finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds while C-Bosh went for 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Not bad, not bad at all.
Plus, only two Hawks players went for double-digits.
Think the Heat were ticked about people saying the three point defense was bad after the Magic game last week?
The Heat now have to take on the Bucks, but they won't get credit even if they win.
On the one hand, if they win, it's the Heat's retribution and they should win this game.
If they lose, it's the Heat's kryptonite are the Bucks and they can't get by them in the playoffs.
See how tough it is to be a member of the Heat?
Also, did you notice last night that LeBron and Bosh only played 30 minutes and D-Wade only played 24 minutes?
Hark, Spoelstra has seen the light and is resting the big guys and this year, the bench is good enough to help generate W's!!!
At 21-7, the Heat look good. It'll look better if they can take out the Bucks and Pacers in consecutive days this week.
Let's see what happens on the road starting tonight.

Panthers: (off until Wednesday vs. Ottawa, 7:30 p.m.)
I don't know what happened or what Coach Kevin Dineen said, but damn.
The Panthers went from second place to first place in a hurry and opened a 4 point lead over the Capitals.
Not bad, not bad at all.
Course two victories in the New York area will do that for you.
Now, the Panthers get tested by Ottawa, who's in second in the northeast division, and the Capitals, but both games are at home.
The Cats play five of their next seven games at home and if you haven't seen em play yet, some great games are coming up.
Hockey is a sport you have to see live to appreciate, kinda like baseball.
The better news for the Panthers is that with their victories, they are now seventh in the East if they don't win the division.
Still, for safeties sake, you want to take the division and guarantee a playoff berth.
There are just 27 games left, so let's go Cats!

UM:
Not a lot to say here.
The Canes turned into a depression after the loss to Florida State over the weekend.
With the loss, the Canes are now in serious danger and on the far reaches of the proverbial NCAA bubble.
They need some big wins at the end of the season or a deep run in the ACC Tournament to make it to the Big Dance.

Frank Haith/Mizzou Update:
Sorry, I have to do this being a Mizzou grad and all.
In case you missed it, number 4 Missouri welcomed in number six Baylor Saturday and proceeded to beat the Bears like a dog 72-57.
It set up the Tigers to face one of the only teams to beat them this season, Oklahoma State, at home on Wednesday.
Mizzou is now 23-2 on the season and 10-2 in Big XII Conference play.
And Mizzou is 3-0 against Top 10 teams in 2011-2012.
Go Tigers!!!!

Dolphins Update:
Not much going on in Fins land, but they are said to be finalizing a deal with CFL star running back Jerome Messam.
He stands 6'3", weighs 245 pounds and is a solid blocker and downhill runner.
Think big fullback in the Mike "You're In Good Hands With" Alstott-mold.
Messam was only the third back in CFL History to run for more than 1,000 yards.
The CFL makes the Big XII look like a run-first league, just FYI.

Spring Training Update:
And just in case you were wondering….it's now T-minus 9 days until pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training for the Marlins.

And finally…
I can't go without mentioning the Whitney Houston story.
People, especially newsrooms, get over yourselves.
She hasn't been relevant in years and now every single newscast is leading with this?
It's sad, but enough already.
Why do we continually waste precious news time on stories like this that don't matter at all into the daily lives of people?
I know why, it's because of the almighty dollar and news people think this is what people want.
The funny part is, people want it because there is no good alternative.
Give people a good alternative with real journalism and news and they will come.
You'll always lose the lowest common denominator to places like Fox, but c'mon.
Let's do some real news…please!
