Sports Agenda for Monday (1/29/12)

Big Story:
The Heat survived last night's game against the Bulls, which was about as horribly officiated as I've seen lately; Brandon Marshall's pretty good when he has a quarterback to get him the ball; and FIU may have to go coach hunting right after signing day.
When our poll numbers rise, we're talking about…more sports!

Heat: (vs. New Orleans Hornets, 7:30 p.m., Sun Sports)
Well, if you wanted a wild finish, yesterday was it.
The Heat held off the Bulls for the victory, but all you heard this morning was how LeBron didn't play well at the end.
Really? Cause it looked to me like he locked down Derrick Rose, who finished the game 1-6.
And really, does it matter?
Look, a win is a win, especially in the regular season. Yes, the Heat could have played a little better down the stretch, but Chicago is a good team.
Go back to the days of Magic, Bird, and MJ and you'll see similar results.
Just relax and enjoy the ride.
Besides, these two are headed to the Eastern Conference Finals, when Miami will beat the Bulls again.
Now, before I turn to the Hornets game….if you haven't seen this, wow.
LeBron went for an alley-oop from Dwyane Wade last night and he didn't just jump around John Lucas, he jumped OVER him.
Check it out here. http://youtu.be/FQ4GA3GB3Wk
As for tonight's game against the Hornets….
The Hornets are a mess and shouldn't give the Heat too much trouble.
I expect the Heat to maybe rest LeBron and Bosh some during the game and get Wade and some of the backups more minutes.
Besides, the Heat need a little rest now that they are heading into a tough February.

Dolphins/Brandon Marshall:
Not a lot to say here, other than, wow, Marshall's pretty good when the quarterback can get him the ball accurately.
He's your Pro Bowl MVP and he made a statement about wanting a quarterback in that game.
The only question now is, did the Dolphins listen.
I'm not sold on Peyton Manning ever returning to the field, so let's remove him from the equation.
You've got three options: trade the farm for RGIII, trade for Matt Flynn, keep Matt Moore.
Yikes.
I'd lean towards number one, simply because he's young and has the most upside.
Something tells me the Fins will go number two and three.

FIU/Mario Cristobal
Well, Cristobal was heavily rumored to be Pitt's candidate of choice until he pulled out at the last minute.
Now he's Rutgers' rumored first choice and interviewed with them yesterday.
It's a curious move if Cristobal did decided to jump, but it would be a coup for Rutgers.
Cristobal would keep the flow of South Florida talent open and keep Rutgers a top team in the Big East Conference.
When FIU loses Cristobal, it's going to hurt the program.
The only thing that makes this worse is the timing, just two days before National Signing Day.
Speaking of….

National Signing Day:
Ahh yes, the day when millions of college football fans attach their hopes and dreams to 18-year-old kids who have never set foot on a college field.
FSU is recruiting STRONG this season and threatening for a number one class. UM is not far behind and Florida is making a big push at the end as well.
If you see me jumping up and down on Wednesday around 10 a.m., it's because Mizzou signed the number one player in the country, Dorial Green-Beckham.
He's being tabbed as Randy Moss part II and is down to Mizzou and Arkansas.
The Big Three Florida schools will be well-represented in the top 10 classes, and we'll have more about who the stars of the class are on Wednesday.
