FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- The Salvation Army of Broward County is acting as a shelter and pickup location in response to a Cold Weather Emergency Activation issued on Friday.
In preparation, The Salvation Army is opening its doors at 1445 W. Broward Blvd for a community feeding at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and will officially serve as a Ft. Lauderdale shelter beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The organization is prepared to receive hundreds, if not more, of those seeking warmth and shelter. Cots, mats and blankets are being placed in the hallways, recreation rooms and throughout the facility to accommodate all needing these services.
"We encourage all to seek shelter from the cold during this cold weather snap," states Major Keath Biggers, Area Commander. "The Salvation Army greatly appreciates those in the communities that have supported its mission of serving those in need without discrimination for 90 years, and are grateful to be able to provide this service."
Community members seeking shelter on Sunday, January 24th are asked to follow the same protocol.
