Reshad Jones Having Pro Bowl Season For Dolphins

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins have been battling through a very up-and-down season.

Currently the Dolphins hold a 4-5 record and are on the outside of the AFC playoff picture looking in.

One of the brightest spots of the season for Miami has been the play of safety Reshad Jones.

The former fifth round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft is having a Pro Bowl caliber season for the Dolphins.

The latest example of his fine play this year came on Sunday during Miami's 20-19 road win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jones intercepted Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez in the end zone with the Dolphins holding a one-point lead late in the fourth quarter. It was the last time that Philadelphia threatened to score.

So far this season Jones has made a team-leading 83 tackles while adding three interceptions and two sacks.  Two of his three interceptions were returned for touchdowns.

He's been a steadying presence on the Dolphins defense, a reliable safety net and leader on the field.

Though he's had a successful, ascending career, Jones has never been selected to a Pro Bowl. He is hoping to change that this season, and his play certainly backs that up.

Jones has played 81 career games in the NFL, accumulating 452 tackles, 13 interceptions and 8.5 sacks.

Those are numbers that put Jones amongst elite company, and there is no reason to suspect that he will slow down any time soon.

On the contrary, Jones has shown steady improvement for the past several years and the more experience he gets, the better he has looked on the field.

Jones is playing the second year of a four-year, $28 million contract extension.

During his five-year career, the Dolphins have never finished with a winning record. Jones has yet to play in a playoff game.

The Dolphins lack of success during his career is a reason why he probably hasn't gotten the recognition that he deserves, but now Jones is making it very difficult for anyone to ignore him anymore.
