Report: Starks Finalizing Contract With Dolphins

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins allowed defensive tackle Randy Starks to become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday. But after nearly a week of teams being able to contact Starks, it looks like he's coming back to the Fins.

According to, the Dolphins are finalizing a deal with Starks to play with the Dolphins. The new contract will be for much less money than what Starks received last year. He played the 2013 season under the franchise tax and was paid $8.45 million for the season.'s Jason LaCanfora and's Ian Rapoport both report the new contract Miami is finalizing with Starks will be around $6 million per season.

With Starks returning to Miami, what looked like a possible weakness heading into free agency should once again turn into a strength for the Dolphins. Starks would join Cameron Wake, Jared Odrick, Olivier Vernon, and Dion Jordan on the defensive line.

Starks would also work beside new Dolphins defensive tackle Earl Mitchell who was signed by Miami just after free agency opened on Tuesday.

Combining Starks, who ranked seventh among defensive linemen measured by ProFootballFocus, with Mitchell, a powerful run stopper with good ability to push the pile; would give Miami quite a line to throw at a team like the Patriots.
