Polls Close As Mid-Term Campaigns End

MIAMI (CBS4) - Floridians hit the polls Tuesday looking to make their voices hear in the 2010 midterm elections. Voters were selecting a new U.S. senator, rendering a verdict on several constitutional amendments and determined a highly contentious gubernatorial race.

More than 2 million Floridians cast their ballots in early and absentee voting and nearly 400-thousand of those were from South Florida.

The weather Tuesday cooperated in South Florida and across most of the state. That typically leads to good voter turnout, but nothing can be gleaned from that until the final numbers are counted across the state.

Marlene Potter said everything seemed to be running smoothly at her Miami precinct.

"The process was fine, I was pleased with the paper ballot and the electronic recording ballot vote that felt good," said Potter.

Many voters, like Alfredo Hildalgo-Gato, said they had already made up their minds before they got to their voting precinct.

"What happened really worked in the Republican favor," said Hidalgo-Gato. "If Crist stayed a Republican maybe Rubio wouldn't be where he is now and maybe Meek would have had a chance to beat him."

"I'm a yellow dog Democrat I vote for a yellow dog before I vote for Republican. I voted almost straight ticket," said Ben Daniel.
