Police Release Name Of Man Killed In Opa-locka Explosion

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The name of a Hialeah man killed in an industrial accident last week has been released by the police.

Manuel Antonio Alvarez, 42, died in an explosion at 2410 NW 147th Street last Thursday.

Miami-Dade Police Homicide detectives said a 20,000 gallon storage tank with a chemical inside over-pressurized and exploded, killing Alvarez and injuring several others. The explosion caused the tank to partially shoot through the roof of the business then fall back into it.

Five workers who were exposed to the chemical were decontaminated by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.  Two of the five were transported for further treatment.
