ORLANDO (CBSMiami) – A series of personnel files are shedding a new light into the Orlando shooter's past.
In this file from the Martin County Department of Corrections, on page 13 there is a handwritten letter by Mateen. It explains an arrest as a juvenile and a fight he got in when he was 14.
In another file from the Martin County Department of Corrections, on page 5 is Mateen's birth certificate and on page 11 is a record for a name change.
This file, also from the Martin County Department of Corrections, is Mateen's dismissal from his position as a correctional officer. Another file explains the discharge was for reasons other than misconduct connected with the work.
Another personnel file for Mateen included lots of names, phone numbers and addresses in Port St Lucie of references for his hiring.
Page 9 is Mateen's signature on a Loyalty Oath pledging to support and defend the U.S. Constitution.
On page 23, Mateen admits using marijuana in his past.
One of Mateen references is a Port St. Lucie Police Officer who wrote, among other amazing things, that "Omar's character is beyond reproach" and that "I would sleep safely at night knowing that a person like Omar is protecting us." That can be found on page 40.
