MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One person was killed and two others were injured in an overnight shooting in South Miami.

It happened at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at 6706 SW 59th Place.

Witnesses told police three men were talking outside of an apartment when the gunman walked up with a high-powered rifle and started shooting. All three were hit.

The family of the man who died identified him as 33-year-old Larry Edwards, a father of two girls, ages 7 and 10. They said he had just gotten off of work and was visiting friends when he was shot. Edwards worked as a chef at the Cadillac Ranch restaurant in Kendall.

"Not only did you take him away from us, you took him away from his daughters," said Edwards' aunt, Vondolyn Harold-Vega.

"He loved his girls. He was planning on going on a trip in a couple of weeks. He was not a trouble child, he didn't bother anyone. He was basically a family man. He didn't deserve this. I don't understand who would do this or why," said Harold-Vega. "Everybody loved him. He didn't go about picking on anybody or picking fights or anything. He honestly did not deserve this. He does not deserve to be laying down on that ground over there."

Harold-Vega told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "This wasn't supposed to happen. He wasn't the type of person to hang out in the street. His 7 and 10 year old daughters meant the world to him. This was unexpected and not right. They need to turn themselves in."

The two other injured men were taken to a nearby hospital. Police said one of the injured men was in critical condition.

Edwards' cousin, Jacqueline Harrell, said the violence has to stop.

"This week my cousin is dead, next week somebody else's cousin, brother or father will be dead. Why? Instead of working together as a community, we are fighting each other," said Harrell.

Edwards' grandmother, whose name is also Jacqueline Harrell, told D'Oench, "He was a kind steady person. He always kept a steady job. Most of all he wanted to take care of his two daughters. To me this is unbelievable. Overall he is going to be missed by his whole family. I would like to say to the public to come forward if you know what happened."

Edwards' family members gathered at the crime scene, heartbroken, when they heard what had happened. They asked the community for help.

"If someone knows something, we're hoping that they do come forward, especially if they value friendship and family relationship with Larry, we hope they will get this guy off the street," said Harold-Vega.

Police said they believe that Edwards was the intended target. They do not have a motive or a description to release of the gunman. They are searching in the area for surveillance tape that could help them.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477). There is a reward of up to $3,000.
