No Swimming Advisory Up For Dog Beach On Virginia Key

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Health officials are asking people to stay out of the water in certain areas of Virginia Key after high levels of bacteria were found.

The county's health department issued the advisory for Dog Beach after two tests showed a higher than acceptable level of enterococci bacteria.

Enteric bacteria, enterococci, is normally found in animal and hum intestinal tracks. Higher concentrations in the water indicate fecal pollution which may infections and illness.

The Miami-Dade County Permitting, Environment and Regulatory Affairs Department will be conducting tests to determine when it is safe to swim in the water.
