New Mayors Elected in Miami-Dade, Broward
MIAMI (CBS4) - Although the top races received much of the media attention, voters in six Miami-Dade cities and two Broward cities were asked to elect a mayor.
Voters in Miami-Dade elected the following mayors to represent them on issues that affect everything from garbage collection to potholes.
Miami-Dade County
With 55% of the vote, Edward P. MacDougall is named the new mayor of the Town of Cutler Bay, beating out opponents Tim Meerbot and Kevin Woitke. MacDougall previously served as the town's vice mayor.
In El Portal, Candidate Daisy Black defeated Joyce Davis, garnering 54% of the vote.
In North Bay Village, Corina S. Esquijarosa beat out Reinaldo 'Rey' Trujillo to become the city's new mayor.
Myra L. Taylor received 52% of the vote over Joseph L. Kelley to become Opa-Locka's new mayor.
And in Palmetto Bay, Shelley Stanczyk will face a runoff election against Peter England because none of the candidates received the majority of the votes.
Broward County
In Coral Springs, Roy Gold received 55% of the vote over James Gleason to become the city's newest mayor.
And in Wilton Manors, Gary Resnick's 65% of the vote outnumbered opponent Joe Angelo.
