Neighbors Save Miami Gardens Man From Burning Home

MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) - A Miami Gardens man has his neighbors to thank for saving his life after an early morning fire damaged both their homes.

"We love our neighbors, we love our neighbors, they saved the day," said Omar Wright.

Wright said neighbors of his grandfather noticed that his house at 193rd Street and 18th Court was on fire around 1 a.m. and immediately ran over to help.

"They came over, knocked on the door and got him out in time," said Wright.

Wright said he and his family can't thank them enough.

"God bless you and thanks for helping my grandfather, (you) saved his life."

The fire not only damaged Wright's grandfather's home, it also damaged the neighbor's home.

"We're glad nobody got hurt or nothing like that, that's the best part about it, it's just material stuff, everything can be replaced," said Wright.

Wright and his cousins placed a blue tarp over the damage caused to their grandfather's roof until repairs can be made. Both homes have been deemed uninhabitable for now and the Red Cross is helping the neighbors find temporary shelter.
