Near Record Cold Across S. Fla.

MIAMI (CBS4) - Temperatures dropped like a rock Monday night in Tuesday morning across South Florida with some locations hitting the freezing mark of 32 degrees and even below that.

CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez said a few inland areas in northern and western Broward County woke up with actual air temperatures in the 30s and the upper 20s with wind chill temperatures in the low 20s.

Ft. Lauderdale's low of 34 degrees tied the old record set back in 1962.  Key West also tied a 1962 record low when it hit 50 degrees.  Miami's low of 36 degrees was also a degree shy of tying an old record of 35 set back in 1962.

Tuesday morning's lows were about 25 to 30 degrees below normal for this time of year of 62 degrees. Tuesday night in Wednesday morning could be even colder and may break or tie some records with lows forecast to dip down into the 30s and upper 20s once again.

The National Weather service has issued a Freeze warning for Broward, Miami-Dade and mainland Monroe from 11p.m. until 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. A Freeze Warning means freezing and sub-freezing temperatures are likely and pose a serious threat to crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Highs Tuesday afternoon will be in the mid to upper 50s. Temperatures will moderate by the end of the week with lows in the 40s and 50s and highs finally back into the 70s. This weekend will be warmer with highs in the upper 70s.
