N. Lauderdale Family Wants Justice In Hit-And-Run Death

NORTH LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - CBS4 News has uncovered new details in the hit and run death of a 7-year-old North Lauderdale girl who was on her way to go Christmas shopping with her mother and siblings when she was struck.

An investigative report obtained by CBS4 shows that two witnesses told Broward Sheriff's deputies they saw two cars driving eastbound on Tam O'Shanter Boulevard in the afternoon of December 22nd. The witnesses said the car that hit Francesca Moise was "traveling at a high rate of speed, possibly racing the other vehicle."

The driver of the car did not stop to help. Than angers Moise's father, Pierre.

"When somebody drive a car if you hurt someone, no matter what, you have to stop," Pierre told CBS 4's Carey Codd.

Moise was airlifted to Broward General Hospital with head injuries where she died a few days later.

Investigators recovered the vehicle from the crash -- an Acura Integra -- from behind a warehouse. The vehicle had damage consistent with the accident.

The investigative report reveals that detectives traced the car to a man who lives Lauderhill. That man, who we are not naming because no one has been charged with a crime, told CBS 4 during a phone call that he purchased the car for his grandson, who was the one who drove it.

However, the man also said his grandson lives outside of South Florida and he doesn't believe his grandson was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

The man said he believed the car had likely been stolen.

The man also said Francesca's death is a tragedy.

"I am very, very upset about it," he said.

Pierre Moise feels like he'll never be the same person he was before his daughter died. He told CBS 4 News his daughter brightened everyday in their household -- no matter how tough times were -- with her singing, dancing and personality.

"I lost my kids and I lost my happiness too," Moise said.

He said the hardest part of the ordeal is driving past the memorial of teddy bears and stuffed animals near the accident scene just a block from his house.

"Every time I look at it I just saw Francesca," he said.

The Broward Sheriff's Office did not comment on this story. We have learned through the investigative report that detectives removed several items from the car and are hoping to find DNA evidence that will lead them to the driver. They said if anyone has any information, call Broward County Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

Pierre Moise said he will not rest until the person who ran down his daughter and did not stop to help her is caught.

"I want justice for my daughter, you know what I'm saying," he said. "I want it so bad. I want it so bad."
