Mid-Week Nuggets
I have a message to fans of bad sports teams: after watching the Dolphins perform in 2010, I feel your pain. Even the die-hard, aqua bleeding Fins fan in me wasn't expecting a Super Bowl championship this season, but losing to Cleveland and Buffalo…at home? You have got to be kidding me! Look, I'm not about to second guess all the decisions being made, because these are, for the most part, the same personnel that created the 2008 divisional champs (all be it with a last place schedule), but at this point something needs to be fixed. Whether its coaching, players, or front office, I don't care what it is…just fix it for us Dol-Fans!
Well, look at that…when the Miami Heat play a decent team, they once again fold like a cheap suit. For those who wanted to make a big deal about the twelve game win streak, it was against teams they were SUPPOSED TO BEAT. Watching their game against Dallas gave the indication of what this team's biggest weakness will be: defense, rebounding, and more defense. Can you say the Phoenix Suns of the Eastern Conference?
Explain how the Florida Panthers can blow a three goal lead to the Carolina Hurricanes, but go on the road and dog-stomp hockey's best team right now, the Philadelphia Flyers. Pick what team you are going to be, Cats…we need to know for highlight purposes.
Teddy Bridgewater de-committing from Miami was not a shock after the firing of Randy Shannon. Going to Louisville was. Doesn't matter who the coaches there are, it's still choosing Louisville over Miami. Welcome to also ran status for the moment, 'Canes fans.
SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY…FIU makes their bowl debut. Oh, you forgot about the Pizza Bowl against Toledo? Yeah…
Yay!!! Brett Favre's career is all but done!!! Uncle Brett needs to get out now, while he still has a working ankle, shoulder and camera phone. And kudos to Roger Goodell, for dragging his feet on the situation involving Favre trying to holler at former Jets employee (and fellow FSU alum) Jen Sterger. Way to set a standard for conduct, commish.
Finally, I know I'm in the minority for this opinion, but I think it is right to compare the 88-game win streak of UConn's Lady Huskies basketball team to that of UCLA's men's team in the 1970's. Today's sports world is such that parity dwarfs anything from previous time. UCLA was, much like the great football powers of the time, able to store away talent on their roster, and basically coast through the regular season until they got to the NCAA tournament (let's face it…the old Pac-8 conference wasn't exactly barn burners). And let's get real: I don't care who you are, or what sport you play, but 88 straight wins is damn tough, and should be celebrated instead of belittled. Too bad the streak has to end when the Huskies lose to Florida State (what, can't I dream a little bit?)
