Miami Springs Dad Accused Of Assaulting Son's Baseball Coach
MIAMI SPRINGS (CBS4) - Police say one dad pushed too hard to get his son in a high school baseball playoff game.
Robert Rodriguez, 43, is accused of attacking his son's coach, 29-year-old Jason Moris. Moris is the lead baseball coach at Miami Springs Senior High. Parents there are not happy.
"It was very upsetting because it shouldn't have escalated to that with anybody, any parent," said Elizabeth Fuentes, a parent.
It was Friday -- Good Friday -- when, police say, Rodriguez confronted Coach Moris at the school. Rodriguez's son had been cut from the team.
"One cannot always have everything your way, cannot always have your kid playing," said Fuentes.
Police say Rodriguez began punching Coach Moris repeatedly. Reports say Coach Moris is about 5'3" and 140 pounds. Rodriguez, however, is six feet tall and 300 pounds.
Police arrested Rodriguez for battery.
CBS4 News tried talking to Coach Moris Tuesday night.
"No comments, man," Coach Moris told CBS4's Gio Benitez.
He wouldn't say much but went right back to work, giving his team a pep talk following Tuesday's loss.
"Bottom line, it's the coach's decision and one has to respect it," said Fuentes.
"Just let the coaches be. They're trying to do the best they can for your kids, said Phil De Stefano, another parent.
