Sedano's security guard slashed with machete by suspected shoplifter, Miami Police say
A suspected shoplifter is in custody after they allegedly attacked a security guard at a Miami grocery store and slashed them with a machete on Wednesday morning, police said.
City of Miami Police arrested 38-year-old Yuris Jimenez-Linares on aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and battery charges.
Around 10:20 a.m., police were called out to Sedano's on 1263 W. Flagler St. in Little Havana regarding a report of a man who struck someone with a machete and was being held down behind the store.
Upon arrival, police found a small crowd of men holding down the reported man, later identified as Jimenez-Linares. He was then detained and placed inside a patrol vehicle.
Miami Police then spoke with the store manager, who said that he was in the back of the store's loading area when he saw Jimenez-Linares take a chain belonging to the store and confronted him. According to the arrest documents, Jimenez-Linares "punched the store manager on his left cheek, which resulted in the manager getting knocked down to the ground."
After speaking with the manager, the police spoke with the security guard who was slashed. According to the arrest documents, the guard saw the manager struggling with Jimenez-Linares and getting punched. The guard, along with two witnesses, then rushed over to help the manager.
While trying to help the manager, the guard told police that Jimenez-Linares then pulled out a machete from his bag and slashed the back of his right shoulder before running away toward a nearby Truist Bank, where the two witnesses took him down and held him until police arrived.
