Miami Doc Cleared In Medicare Fraud Case
MIAMI (CBS4) - A federal jury has found a Miami doctor not guilty of charges that he bilked Medicare out of thousands of dollars.
Dr. Jorge Dieppa, 56, was accused of falsifying hundreds of patient records in exchange for kickbacks. According to court papers, Dieppa referred more than 300 of his patients to home healthcare agencies which then billed the taxpayer funded program for unnecessary services.
Miami-Dade County accounts for one dollar out of every $15 Medicare pays out for home heath care.
The case has so far netted more than 20 convictions through guilty plea deals. The two agencies at the center of the case, ABC Home Health Care and Florida Home Health Providers, reportedly billed Medicare for $22 million and were paid $15 million between 2006 and 2009.
