Meth Lab Discovered In Ft. Lauderdale Motel Room

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) — The names of three people taken into police custody for questioning following the discovery of a small meth lab inside a Fort Lauderdale motel have still not been released.

The drug lab was discovered Monday when police were called to the Relax Inn at 1851 South Federal Highway.

According to the officers, an argument between two men and a woman took place and the management of the motel asked them to remove their belongings and leave the property.

Officers were requested to escort the people to their room for their stuff, but while officers were there, the woman reportedly told them the men were cooking meth in their room.

Investigators located what they said was a small meth lab and evacuated the rooms as a precaution. A DEA Clandestine Lab Team responded to secure the property.

Erica Rojas said she stays at the motel and was shocked at the discovery.

"I don't appreciate it because there's children that live over there," she told CBS4's Carey Codd.

A woman named Terese, who lives near the motel with her three children, said she is often concerned about drug use and prostitution in the area. She wondered what kind of damage an explosion at even a small meth lab could have done.

"I know that's a lot of chemicals, right?" she said "And my children's room is right there in the back of the hotel, so its pretty scary."
