MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An investigation is underway after a man was shot in Allapattah.

It happened just before 7:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of NW 22nd Avenue.

Miami police say a man in his 30s was sitting in his car when someone sprayed it with gunfire.

Chopper4 over the scene spotted a dark Chevy Malibu with what appeared to be nine bullet holes in its windshield.

The man, who was hit multiple times, was able to make it to his nearby apartment to call for help.

"It's incredible, it's incredible, you know, this happens where you live at," said a woman who lives in the ares.

She said she was home and heard the gunshots.

"He was shot when he was going to work," she added. "I hope he makes it through."

Police have not said led up to the shooting.

"He was still conscious at the time that officers and Miami Fire Rescue arrived, unfortunately, we weren't able to get enough information," said Officer Kenia Fallat.

Investigators say they have very few leads in the case. They're still trying to determine if the man was targeted and if the shooter was in a car or on foot.

"We just don't know whether he was the intended target or not," said Fallat. "There's a lot of people that walk up and down and drive up and down this street so someone may have seen something."

The man was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
