Man Sentenced To Prison For Coffee Machine Fraud

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - One of the men behind a South Florida scam which involved pricey coffee vending machines will be served his morning joe out of a prison commissary for the next year.

Prosecutors say James Cummings reportedly sold coffee machines worth more than $10,000 to investors and made false claims in regards to how much profit the coffee machines would generate.

Cummings also reportedly told investors they would recoup their money in 12 to 18 months.

The investors, however, lost all their money and some never even got their coffee machines.

But this was not Cummings first encounter with fraud. Back in November 2011, he pleaded guilty to a mail fraud conspiracy charge.

The coffee machine conspiracy was not a solo act. Manuel Rodriguez, who prosecutors say was the leader of the scam, was convicted of eight federal chargers and given a rigid 10 year sentence for fraud.
