Love My Teacher: Cassie Peterson
CORAL SPRINGS (CBS4) - Teachers never seem to get enough recognition.
In our special series, "Love my Teacher", CBS4 is celebrating those educators who go above and beyond to teach kids in South Florida classrooms.
To recognize our first teacher, Cassie Peterson of Country Hills Elementary School, we headed to Coral Springs where she teaches pre-kindergarten kids with special communication needs.
Each of her kids has a different level of communication. Peterson spends each day working with them one on one to get them to the level they need to be to one day enter kindergarten.
"Miss Cassie," as she's known to her students, was nominated from India. Nathali Pincus emailed us to tell us the progress Peterson made with her son before they moved from South Florida two months ago.
And, parents of current students, like Richard Roberts says Peterson has made a huge difference with his son, Rhys."I think it's her dedication, she strives for excellence every day."
When we presented Peterson the award, she was humbled and says she couldn't do it alone. She said she receives help from other teachers and it's a collaborative effort.
And these kids might not know it now, but they're also making a huge difference in her life.
"I get a smile and a hug every day and I get to see the progress they make."
