Law Professor Calls Troop Care Packages "Shameful"

Even if you oppose the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, most Americans are able to separate their feelings about the wars from the warriors: the young men and women in our armed forces who serve their country and risk their lives.

That's not the case with a professor at Suffolk University Law School in Boston.  Michael Avery has created a firestorm with an email declaring it would be "shameful" to send care packages to U.S. troops who "have gone overseas to kill other human beings."

The email was in response to a school-wide appeal to collect items for deployed troops.  Never mind that American troops in the theaters of war often live under terrible conditions, under enemy fire, with few of the comforts we take for granted.  This professor is shameless in diminishing their service and sacrifice.

And he didn't stop there, pretty much calling the rest of us idiots, writing that sympathy for American troops is "not particularly rational in today's world."  I guess that makes me irrational.    But I'm rational enough to know that American troops are risking their lives for truly irrational people like this professor to utter his inane opinions.

I feel sorry for this guy's students.
