Man in Lauderhill seriously hurt in apparent hit-and-run, police say

An investigation is underway after the Lauderhill Police Department said a man was seriously hurt by a vehicle in an apparent hit-and-run overnight.

Police said it happened around 12:30 a.m. along the 1300 block of North State Road 7. Officers arrived and said they found a man suffering from multiple injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, and as of publication, he is in critical but stable condition.

Lauderhill Police said the driver reportedly left the scene in an unknown direction. It's also not yet known what kind of vehicle was involved.

Debris was strewn across the road overnight, but hours later, a Carnival event was being set up well after the cleanup was finished. Andy Ameda was shocked to learn about the incident; he didn't know about it until CBS News Miami spoke with him.

"To not wanna correct something you've done and leave someone like that," he said. "That person [the driver] should suffer the consequences."

Kuji Duke, a videographer for the event, said this isn't how he expected his day to start: with the weight of the incident on his mind.

"Super awful man, it freaked me out. At the end of the day, we got to face reality, and I hope that person is well and they make it through okay," he said of the victim.

He also said he wished the driver would "just have consideration for human life."

The investigation remains ongoing. Lauderhill Police said new information could prompt updates later on.

"Get those bad boys and lock them up and give them some time," Duke said.
