Historic Ft. Lauderdale House Moved To Its New Home
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Sunday was moving day for Ft. Lauderdale's historic Shippey House.
Moving at a snails pace, crews moved the 98-year old home on a trailer of sorts from its original location at 215 SW 7th Avenue to its new home on Nugent Avenue in the historic Himmarshee Village. The trip, only about a quarter of a mile, took several hours to complete.
Built in 1914, the home was named after Fred Shippey, Broward County's second judge.
It was under an active demolition order until an anonymous donor came forward and gave a $50,000 donation to save it from the wrecking ball. Once in place at it's new location, crews will begin a full restoration.
