MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – Two people in the back of a Flamingo taxi were targeted in a shooting on Miami Beach early Monday morning.

The cab was at 41st Street and Pine Tree Drive when four men inside a red BMW open fire on the rear passenger seat, the rear window was blown out by bullets.

A man who was nearby, who did not want his name used in this report, heard the gunfire.

"About 3 a.m. I heard some shooting. I wasn't sure if it was gunfire or not, it was like six or seven shots," he said.

One person in the passenger seat was grazed by a bullet, the other was shot in the head and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Police said finding that car is key to solving this crime.

"What we're currently looking for is a red BMW, it's a convertible, it should have some damage on it, we're not sure exactly where that damage would be," said Miami Beach police department's Ernesto Rodriguez.

The man said at the same time he heard the shots, there was a minivan cab stopped nearby with people arguing inside. He wasn't sure if it was involved.

"There was screaming going on in the car, to me it seemed liked the guys were drunk and I didn't pay any attention and in a minute or two they just drove off," he said.

Miami Beach police have not said what may have led to the shooting.

"It's too early in the investigation to tell," said Rodriguez.

Anyone with information which could help the police solve this shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
