MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The Miami and Ft. Lauderdale metro areas had some of the state's largest job growth in the last year, according to Gov. Rick Scott's office.

On Friday, Scott's office announced that the Fort Lauderdale area gained 22,800 jobs over the year in September 2015. At the same time the metro area's unemployment rate dropped from 5.8 percent in September 2014 to 4.9 percent in September 2015.

"Fort Lauderdale's unemployment rate has dropped to 4.9 percent, one of the lowest in the state. We are working every day to make Florida first in job creation and families in Fort Lauderdale are getting great jobs as new businesses continue to expand in Broward County," Scott said in statement.

The largest job gains in the last year came from the professional and business services sectors (6,700 new jobs), construction (4,900 new jobs) and trade, transportation, and utilities (3,700 new jobs). The Fort Lauderdale metro area also was ranked fourth in job demand among all metro areas with 25,768 openings.

The Miami area gained 21,800 new jobs over the last year ending September 2015.

Miami's unemployment rate went from 6.8 percent in September 2014 to 6.2 percent in September 2015.

The industries with the largest job gains over the year in the metro area were leisure and hospitality (7,000 new jobs), professional and business services (5,500 new jobs) and trade, transportation, and utilities (4,200 new jobs). The Miami metro area had the third highest job demand in Florida in September 2015.

The big jobs winner in the state was the Tampa Bay area which added 28,500 new jobs in the last year and saw its unemployment rate go from 5.9 percent to 5.0 percent during that time period.

"It is great news that the Tampa Bay area added over 28,000 new jobs over the year. Tampa is also number one in Florida for current job openings, helping more Floridians have the opportunity to find a great career," said Scott.

Since December 201, 941,000 private-sector jobs have been created in the state.

Florida's statewide unemployment rate for September 2015 was 5.2 percent.
