Gov. Scott Sits Down With Miami Herald Editorial Board

MIAMI (CBS4) – During his run for the governor's office last year, Rick Scott snubbed newspapers across the state by refusing to meet with their editorial boards.

But in the last few months there has been a change in the political winds. Scott, whose approval ratings rank him the least popular governor in the country, is trying to turn his image around.

In recent days, he's met with newspaper editorial boards in Tallahasse and Tampa. On Thursday, it's CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald's turn.

Scott plans to meet with the paper's editorial board at 4 p.m. and answer questions submitted via Twitter and email.

In addition to questions about job creation, healthcare and cuts in funding to public education, Scott is sure to be asked about spending half a million dollars to hire a former tea party activist and veterans of his campaign to be public liaisons.

During his campaign Scott spent tens of millions of his own money to get his message out to the public. Now his staff, led by newly appointed Chief of Staff Steve MacNamara is realizing they need the so-called main stream media to communicate with voters.
