Former Tropical Storm Franklin Speeds Across Atlantic

MIAMI (CBS4) - As expected, what was briefly Tropical Storm Franklin lost it's tropical characteristics in the North Atlantic west of Bermuda Saturday evening, and is now what forcasters refer to as a 'post-tropical cyclone'.

The weather system still carries winds of about 40 miles per hour, but it has lost the characteristics that make it a tropical system.

The storm  is no threat to land, located about 235 miles southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland at 11 p.m. Saturday.

The remnants of Franklin are moving east-northeast at about 26 mph. The storm is expected to weaken gradually over the next few days.

The National Hurricane Center has ended advisories on Franklin.
