Florida State-Auburn Put The BCS To Rest For Good
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — BCS executive director Bill Hancock says the creation of the Bowl Championship Series was a bigger and more challenging step in the evolution of college football's postseason than going to a four-team playoff.
The last BCS championship game will be played Monday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., with No. 1 Florida State facing No. 2 Auburn. Next season, a four-team playoff replaces the 16-year-old postseason system that helped transform the sport while also leaving plenty of fans frustrated by its limitations.
Hancock says that by creating a 1 vs. 2 final game at the end of the season, the BCS created a culture that led to the four-team playoff.
He says the Bowl Championship Series led to colleges taking greater control of the postseason.
