FAU Seeks 1st Win Against MTSU

BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – Last Saturday was supposed to start with the opening of the new FAU Stadium and end with a FAU victory.

Unfortunately, the Owls offense couldn't put any offense together and were shutout by Western Kentucky in the first game at the new stadium.

So, the Owls will try again this weekend when they welcome in Sun Belt Conference rival Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders.

FAU's biggest problem has been when the Owls have the football. Currently, FAU is averaging just 11.3 points per game, which is next to last in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

The defense isn't helping the Owls much either. Through half of the season, FAU is ranked 103rd in the country in defense, giving up 33.8 points per game, according to cfbstats.com.

If there is a bright spot for FAU, the Middle Tennessee State defense is even worse. The Blue Raiders give up 36 points per game on average in 2011.

MTSU is also allowing more than 450 yards of total offense per game, according to cfbstats.com.

MTSU has only won one game in 2011, which came against a Memphis team that is probably the worst team in the FBS. On the flip side, FAU is still looking for its first victory.

It will be a battle to see which team wants to bring up the rear of the Sun Belt Conference in 2011.

FAU desperately needs a victory to avoid the prospects of a winless season in head coach Howard Schnellenberger's final season on the sidelines.

The game is set for an 8:00 p.m. kickoff and can be seen on ESPN3.com.
