According to multiple reports, the Marlins and veteran right-hander Edinson Volquez have agreed to a two-year, $22 million deal pending a physical.

The 33-year-old starter pitched for the Royals the past two seasons and compiled a 10-11 record with a 5.37 ERA in 34 starts and 189 1/3 innings in 2016 for Kansas City.

His ERA in 2016 was his highest since 2013 when he was a member of the San Diego Padres.

Still, Volquez is a reliable starter and has pitched at least 170 1/3 innings in each of the last five seasons.

The move comes roughly two months after the tragic death of Marlins ace Jose Fernandez and is a good first step towards helping Miami rebuild a starting rotation that was decimated by the loss of their No. 1 starter.

It's expected by many that the Marlins will continue to shop for another starter, but their rotation as it stands now is Adam Conley, Wei-Yin Chen, Tom Koehler and Volquez.
