Dolphins Continue Searching For New GM

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins' search for another general manager will get back underway soon after taking Monday off. The Dolphins are scheduled to interview Brian Xanders in the coming days, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Xanders is the Detroit Lions' senior personnel director and was previously the general manager for the Denver Broncos from 2009 until 2012. Xanders' first draft, in 2009, was almost a complete bomb with both first round picks struggling to get on the field.

But he came back strong in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, the Broncos selected Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, Zane Beadles, J.D. Walton, Perrish Cox, and Tim Tebow. In 2011, Xanders selected Von Miller, Rahim Moore, and Orlando Franklin with the first three picks and found Julius Thomas in the fourth round.

Xanders also helped the Broncos find defensive tackle Derek Wolfe and backup quarterback Brock Osweiler in the NFL Draft.

While Xanders is scheduled to be interviewed, CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald reported that Browns assistant general manager Ray Farmer has been the "most impressive" candidate to be interviewed.

Still,'s Jeff Darlington said it might be a while before the Dolphins make any moves. Darlington said on Twitter, "The Dolphins do not feel pressure to expedite a hire because of any outside factors/teams. They want to get this right rather then (sic) rush."

Darlington said Farmer does "covet" the general manager job and wasn't upset with the front office situation with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins have interviewed multiple candidates for the position including: Tennessee Titans V.P. of player personnel Lake Dawson, Steelers director of football and business administration Omar Khan, Carindals V.P. of player personnel Jason Licht, Eagles V.P. of player personnel Tom Gamble, Falcons director of player personnel Lionel Vital, and Giants V.P. of player evaluation Marc Ross.

According to, the favorites are Farmer and Dawson. However, PFT also reported that former Jets and Browns head coach Eric Mangini could also be on the radar.

While the Dolphins have said publicly that there is no pressure, the Senior Bowl practices are coming up shortly and most teams want to have a front office in place to kick off the unofficial draft season.
