Dolphins Continue Search For GM Amid Confusing Structure

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins are continuing to line up candidates for a general manager job that may be part of a power structure never before seen in the NFL.

According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have asked the Tennessee Titans for permission to interview vice-president of player personnel Lake Dawson for the Fins' general manager job.

In addition, the Dolphins have also requested permission to talk to Cleveland Browns assistant general manager Ray Farmer about the G.M. job in Davie.

The news comes after it was reported the Fins planned to interview New York Giants executive Marc Ross about the job vacated this week by Jeff Ireland.

But while becoming an NFL general manager is the goal for many front office workers, the exact role of the Dolphins general manager remains unknown. Specifically, what responsibilities will the new GM have and who will they have authority over.

The Herald asked Dolphins owner Stephen Ross if the new GM would report to Dawn Aponte, who was allegedly involved in an internal power struggle in the organization, or if the GM would have final authority.

Ross, according to the Herald, declined to answer the question.

The job became even more convoluted when John Wooten told the National Football Post this Thursday afternoon: "I want to talk to the Dolphins. I talked to Jeff Pash from the NFL. I didn't quite understand what they were saying about how everything is going to work."
