Director Charged In Daycare Death Of Toddler
DELRAY BEACH (CBS4) - The director of Katie's Kids Learning Center in Delray Beach has been charged with Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child three months after a toddler died in a sweltering van while in her care.
Petra Rodriguez-Perez, 45 was arrested at her home in Lake Worth by the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office Tuesday night.
According to police reports, Haile Brockington, 2, was strapped to a safety seat in the daycare center van on August 5 for more than seven hours.
A former worker at the center, Amanda Inman, was charged in August with aggravated manslaughter of a child. Police say Inman was driving the van that day and did not check to make sure all of the children had safely exited the van.
Haile Brockington's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the owners of Katie's Kids Learning Center and owners Barbara Dilthey and Kathy Muhammad, as well as Inman.
After the death, the center also lost federal subsidized funding and was forced to close it's doors in September.
