Contract Battle Moves Heat Games To New Station

MIAMI (CBS4) - A contract dispute between Clear Channel radio and the Miami Heat means starting with Saturday's game, radio listeners will have to re-set their tuner to find the game. The heat said Saturday that effective with Saturday's game, WAXY AM (790-The Ticket) will carry all games for the remainder of the season.

The games had been carried on Clear Channel's WINZ, but the company and the Heat have been fighting over the terms of their contract, a fight that has spawned a lawsuit and cancellation of the contract between the companies.

WINZ carried the games at the start of the season, but the Heat had given them 30 days notice that they would terminate the contract. That notice expired Friday, and the Heat announced the change Saturday, effectively immediately.

Little detail was offered about the switch, although the Heat said in a brief statement details would be offered in a more extensive statement next week.

The announcing staff for the game should not change, as the local team announcers are employed by the team, not by the radio station.
