Computer Problems Lengthen Waits At DMV Offices
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ― The seemingly endless wait for those who have to go a Florida Department of Motor Vehicles office to get, renew or replace a driver's license is longer than ever now.
DMV offices statewide have been experiencing intermittent computer system crashes because of a problem with the department's main computer servers. Courtney Heidelberg, a DMV deputy communications director, told the Sun-Sentinel that problems began November 3rd and have gotten worse; she added that IBM declared the situation critical.
To help cut some of the wait time, which has increased due to tighter identification requirements which began last January, the DMV officials urge those that have to visit an office to make an appointment online.
For Florida residents who need to renew or obtain a new driver license or identification card, they must bring original documents which prove identity, social security number and residential address to the DMV office.
