Cold Front Coming To South Florida

MIAMI (CBS4) - A cold front North of Lake Okeechobee is sliding down the peninsula towards South Florida and will usher in even cooler and drier air later today.

Ahead of the front this morning we are waking up with cloudy, cool and comfortable weather.

Lows dropped down to the 60s overnight and throughout the day highs will only climb to the low to mid 70s.

Once the front drops down to our South, we should see some more sunshine.  It will feel like Fall with lower humidity and a nice breeze out of the north. Tonight temperatures will likely drop down to the upper 50s inland and the 60s near the coast. Tomorrow we will enjoy plenty of sunshine and highs in the upper 70s.

With high pressure building in the winds will be increasing once again and that will lead to a dangerous high risk of rip currents along the beaches this weekend.  Folks headed to the coast should keep an eye out for the red flags warning swimmers of the rip currents and avoid swimming if possible.

Boating conditions will be rough as well due to the strong onshore winds and a Small craft advisory is already in place. There will also be the potential for more beach erosion and minor coastal flooding.  Sunday highs will creep back up to around 80 degrees and we will be warmer by early next week.
