Turnpike Lanes In Davie Re-Open After Car Fire

DAVIE (CBS4) - All southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike at Griffin Road have re-opened to traffic after being shutdown earlier for a car fire.

Just after 8 a.m. Chopper4 flew over the vehicle and found it completely engulfed in flames in a center lane, thick black smoke billowing into the air.  Firefighters from Davie Fire Rescue made quick work of the fire and had it out within a few minutes.

Southbound traffic delays extended to I-595.  The scene also caused onlooker delays in the northbound lanes.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not said how many people were in the vehicle when it erupted in to flame or what may have caused the fire.
