Canes Linebacker Avoids Criminal Charges
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) - Miami Hurricanes linebacker Ramon Buchanan will escape criminal charges if he successfully completes a program for first-time offenders.
Buchanan was arrested after an off-campus incident in Coconut Grove in March. He had faced felony charges of resisting a police officer with violence and battery on a police officer, firefighter, or emergency medical care provider.
He was also facing three misdemeanor charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest without violence.
For Buchanan to avoid the charges, he must: perform 100 hours of community service, apologize in writing to the officers involved, and contribute $300 to specified community programs.
If Buchanan completes those requirements, all charges will be dismissed.
Buchanan played in 13 games for the Canes in 2010 and recorded 54 tackles, including 8 tackles for loss.
