BSO: Man Found Dead In Vehicle Is Homicide

OAKLAND PARK (CBS4) - Detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a vehicle in Oakland Park.

The body of Kelvin Walden was found in his Infiniti Wednesday night shortly before 10:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment building located in the 4100 block of NW 21st Avenue.

"Whoever did this needs to turn themselves in, because everyone knows him and loves him," Conchita Walden, the mother of Kelvin, said from her home as friends and family arrived to comfort her. "He's a sweetheart. Who would shoot and kill my baby and leave him for dead?"

Conchita said she last saw her son on Monday. "He said goodbye. I told him don't say goodbye, say see you later," Conchita said. "I called him Wednesday and he never responded."

Walden has many cousins in the Lauderhill area. One of those cousins, Anthonique Turner says she became concerned when she couldn't reach him on Wednesday. She said she and a friend decided to look for Walden because he had mentioned that he was going to NW 21st Avenue on Tuesday.

Turner said she found his car inside the Crystal Lake complex and then realized that Walden was inside and had been shot.

"I just saw him slumped over, his head to the right; the front window was shattered," Turner said. She said she thinks the motive was robbery.

Whatever the reason, Walden's mom Conchita said, "Whatever it was, they didn't have to shoot him like that. They could have been him. Why take his life?"

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477). Callers can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to a conviction.
