Broward Under Severe Storm Watch Until Noon
MIAMI (CBS4) - Broward along with four other southern and central Florida counties are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until noon due to the potential of strong storms which may contain damaging winds gusting up to 70 miles-per-hour, dangerous lightning, torrential downpours, small hail and even the slight chance of tornadoes.
CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez said we can expect showers and storms late Monday morning into the afternoon, some of these storms may be severe so residents need to keep their eye to the sky and be cautious. Ahead of the storms, South Florida woke to very warm and muggy conditions with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.
Monday afternoon temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 80s. On Sunday, Miami tied a record high with a reading of 89 degrees; Monday we will be flirting with record heat once again before the wet weather rolls in to cool us down a bit. The heat combined with a very moist, unstable atmosphere will help enhance the chance for showers and storms through Tuesday as we remain to the South of a front moving across the Panhandle of Florida.
Most of the week will be unseasonably warm and humid with a better chance of storms again on Friday.
