MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The NFL offseason isn't going nearly as well as usual for the Miami Dolphins.
The Denver Broncos surprised a lot of people on Tuesday by matching the Dolphins offer sheet that was signed by running back C.J. Anderson last Thursday.
The news that was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter was soon after verified by Anderson himself on Twitter.
The Dolphins structured the offer sheet in a way that would make it difficult for the Broncos to match, giving Anderson $5.25 million of a guaranteed roster bonus on March 31st, as well as a base salary of $675,000.
It was thought that the cap hit of $6.1 million (which also includes a $100,000 workout bonus) would be too rich for Denver's blood but that is apparently not the case.
Miami now has to turn to whatever the team's third option at running back will be after losing Lamar Miller to free agency and now Anderson back to Denver.
Currently the only viable starter on the Dolphins roster is sophomore Jay Ajayi.
