4 Hospitalized In Police Cruiser Crash

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) -Miami-Dade Police are still investigating a crash involving two of their officers, a second vehicle and a pedestrian in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Police Det. Roy Rutland said the officers were in a marked Miami-Dade Police cruiser en route to an emergency call of an auto theft in progress when they collided with a Mitsubishi Montero SUV at the intersection of 22nd Avenue and NW 75th Street just before 6 p.m.

The collision set off a chain reaction, and a pedestrian was also hit by the SUV.

Both officers and the pedestrian were hospitalized but are expected to be okay.

One of the three passengers in the SUV was ejected. That person was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Witnesses on the scene say the patrol car did have its lights on, but no sirens.

"It just had the lights on, but not the sirens. So they never heard the police car coming. It just came through the light and hit the truck," said witness Karim Walker.

Det. Rutland says the investigation is ongoing.

"It is too early, at this point, to make any conclusions at to where the lights were, what light was on, and who had the green light," said Det. Rutland.
