Brian Carson shared some video from the cockpit just before he and his instructor, Trevor Peterson, were forced to land on the busy freeway when the plane's engine lost power. The video showed the area's terrain and the busy freeway growing closer.
The freeway's westbound lanes were shut down just before 10:30 a.m. after a man reportedly armed with a screwdriver or knife stopped on the freeway, and refused to get out. The California Highway Patrol is negotiating with the man to get him to surrender peacefully.
A plane made an emergency landing Monday on the 101 Freeway in the Westlake Village area.
The suspect escaped and remains at large. The victim was struck in the arm.
Gunfire was reported to have come from a dark SUV just before 2 a.m. on the northbound 101 Freeway, just south of the Santa Monica Boulevard exit, according to the CHP.
A 2.5-mile section of the 101 Freeway from the 10/101 split to the 5/10/101 interchange just east of downtown Los Angeles will be shut down starting at 10 p.m. Friday. The closure is scheduled to end Monday at 5 a.m.

The crash happened just after noon Thursday on the northbound 101 Freeway at Borchard Road. When first responders arrived, they found one vehicle off the freeway and another on its roof in lanes.
All eastbound lanes were reopened as of 3:22 p.m., but traffic remained backed up.
The circumstances of the crash and the number of vehicles involved were not confirmed.
