Crews in Winnetka extinguish large fire at commercial building
Fire crews extinguished a large blaze at a commercial building in Winnetka on Tuesday morning.
The fire broke out around 5:10 a.m. on the 20000 block of Sherman Way. By 6:30 a.m., more than 120 firefighters were able to put out the bulk of the fire in the back of the building.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said the front of the building sustained a partial collapse and crews were working to safely access the area.
A nearby apartment building was protected from any damage and did not require evacuation. Residents were instructed to shelter in place.
A 36-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in fair condition, the LAFD said. No other injuries were reported.
The LAFD is asking drivers to avoid the area near Sherman Way from Winnetka Avenue to Oso Avenue.
